JUNIOR RESEARCH GROUP

Activities of the junior research group during the German Congress on Addiction 2016

The German Congress on Addiction took place in Berlin from September 5th - September 7th, 2016. Also this year, the junior research group could actively participate in the congress.

As during the last years, the junior research group also participated in this year`s congress with an own symposium. In order to promote participation of students in the congress, the junior research group together with the board of the DG-Sucht had announced four participation scholarships. Four scholarship students, who had presented and discussed their theses within the junior research symposium, were selected by a jury. This year the participation scholarships were assigned to Dominique Brandt (University of Luebeck), Benjamin Strothmann (UKE Hamburg), Lena Schulz (University of Kiel) and Matthias Winkler (CIMH Mannheim).

This year's junior research group poster prize was assigned to Mathias Ostergaard (University of Konstanz) for his poster on the topic: "Psychoeducation for comorbid mental disorders in the Qualified Withdrawal Treatment: effects on success indicators".

After a very successful term of four years, the speakers of the junior group, Anja Bischof (Centre for Integrative Psychiatry, Luebeck) and Angela Buchholz (University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf) laid down their office. The main topics of their dedicated work in and for the junior research group included the organisation of an annual junior research symposium during the German Congress on Addiction, three successful pre-conference workshops, the announcemant and the allocation of the poster prizes and the allocation of this year's participation scholarship as well as the organisation of the winter school for junior researchers in the addiction research and addiction practice in January 2017.

As new speakers of the junior research group, Bettina Besser (Centre for Integrative Psychiatry, Luebeck), and Rilana Schuster (CIMH Mannheim, Dept. of Addictive Behaviour & Addiction Medicine), were elected.

Furthermore, the junior research group coodinator, Ester Giesen and the secretary, Kristina Weismüller, laid down their office, so that new elections had to take place.

Svenja Orlowski (Centre for Integrative Psychiatry, Luebeck) was elected as new junior research group coodinator and Anne Koopmann (CIMH Mannheim, Dept. of Addictive Behaviour & Addiction Medicine) was elected as new secretary.

We would like to take the opportunity and thank all participants for an exicting and inspring congress on which besides interesting symposia and lectures, many interesting discussions and new contacts as well as the networking of former contacts were possible.

Special thanks goes to Anja Bischof and Angela Buchholz for their great support concerning the active assistance of the junior research group on the German Congress on Addiction as well as numerous tasks of the group during the past years!

Awarding of the junior studentships for the German Congress on Addiction 2016

For this year’s Congress on Addiction in Berlin (Sept. 5th, Sept. 7th, 2016) the junior research group together with the Board of the DG-Sucht has announced four participation studentships for young researchers for the first time, in order to promote participation of students in the Congress of Addiction. Among the numerous applicants, four outstanding works were selected. The awarded lectures represent the wide range of topics in the field of substance-related and non-substance-related disorders.

Activities of the junior research group at the German Congress on Addiction 2015 in Hamburg

The junior research group could also actively help shape the German Congress on Addiction 2015 in Hamburg. As meanwhile every year we started with a pre-conference workshop on the day before the congress; this year with the subject poster design. Posters processed in this workshop could still be printed the same evening.

Furthermore we were represented in Hamburg with an own symposium on „health services research” with interesting contributions of junior researchers of the different fields of the health services research.

As already last year, we could also award a junior research group poster price this year. The submitted contributions were of high quality, as expected, which made the decision of the jury more difficult. The awardee of the poster price 2015 was Hanna Brand from the IFT in Munich with her contribution on “Mental comorbidity in the Addiction Treatment Service: prevention and actual medical treatment situation”.

The Congress on Addiction was – as always – an exciting and inspiring event, which beside highly interesting contributions additionally offered the opportunity to meet new people, to make contacts and to make friends. Also this year we would therefore like to say: Thank you for a great congress!

Activities of the junior research group at the German Congress on Addiction 2014 in Berlin

From September 30th – October 2nd 2014 the German Congress on Addiction took place in Berlin. Also this year the junior research group of the DG-Sucht was represented with numerous activities, among others with a pre-conference workshop on the subject “third parties funds acquisition” with Prof. Dr. Andreas Fallgatter and Dr. David Steffen as speakers in an own symposium under the title “Comorbidity in addictive disorders” and an own general assembly.

For the first time in 2014 a poster price for the junior research group was awarded. For this purpose, an independent jury of members of the junior research group was appointed to evaluate the submitted posters. The price included a certificate and a book token in the amount of 100 €. Due to the high quality of the submissions and the generosity of the publishers Huber Verlag, who donated a second price, two poster prices could be awarded.

The awardees were: Alena Becker (CIMH Mannheim) and Anke Friedrichs (UKE Hamburg).

We would like to thank all participants for their active involvement, interesting conversations and contacts and for a great and inspiring congress!
